If you want a boudoir album ready for a wedding, book your session at least ten weeks before the date. Six weeks is the minimum. Anniversaries are more forgiving, but the same math applies. And before any of that: the album might be the gift, but the session is for you, and it goes better when you book it that way.

Gifts are one of the most common reasons people book. Here is how to make it work.

How far ahead should I book for a wedding?

Ten to twelve weeks before the wedding, ideally. Six weeks is the floor.

The timeline:

Booking to session: usually two to four weeks, depending on availability. Spring and fall fill fastest.

Session to gallery: two to three weeks for retouching.

Gallery to album delivery: three to four weeks. Albums are made by hand, one at a time, and they ship.

Add a buffer, because weddings eat every spare day in the last month. A session in mid-March for a June wedding is comfortable. A session in May is tight.

When during wedding planning is the best time to do it?

After the dress fitting, before the final month.

Most brides have a stretch around eight to twelve weeks out where the big decisions are made and the small ones have not started yet. That is the window. Your hair and skin are in the state you want them, you have the energy, and the album arrives with time to spare.

Do not book it the week of the wedding. You will be exhausted and it will show.

What is the actual gift?

Usually an album. Sometimes a folio box, a single framed print, or a small set of prints in a box. Digital files, almost never.

An album is the right answer for most people. It can be wrapped. It can be handed over the night before, or the morning of, or on the honeymoon. It lives in a drawer, where a phone gallery never quite does. And it is an object, which is what a gift should be.

The Signature collection here comes with an 8x8 album. The Collection comes with a 10x10 and a framed print. Album and print prices on their own are on the pricing page.

Should I tell my partner?

Up to you. Both work.

A surprise is a surprise. But some people prefer to tell their partner they have booked a session and keep the pictures themselves as the surprise. That removes the logistics of hiding a two-hour appointment and an album delivery, and the reaction is the same.

One thing to be clear on: your partner will not see a single image unless you show them. Nothing is shared with anyone. The privacy guide covers this in detail.

What about anniversary gifts?

Same idea, easier timing.

Anniversary sessions are often calmer than bridal ones. There is no wedding stress, there is a longer history, and the photographs tend to reflect that. Many people do them for a tenth or twentieth, and a good number do a session at each milestone and compare.

Some couples book a couples session for an anniversary, choosing it over a solo one. That is a different thing, and worth reading about.

Can I buy a session as a gift for someone else?

Yes, with a caution.

Gift certificates are available on request. Just ask when you get in touch. Boudoir works best when the person in front of the camera chose to be there. A certificate given to someone who has never mentioned wanting one can land as pressure.

The version that works: they have said they want to, they have been putting it off, and you remove the excuse. That gift is a good one.

The one thing to know before booking as a gift

The session is yours.

I say this to everyone booking a wedding or anniversary session, because it changes the pictures. People who spend the session thinking "will he like this" tend to perform. People who spend it thinking "how do I want to be seen" tend to look like themselves. The second set of photographs is always better, and the partner always prefers them.

Book it for you. Give the album away afterward if you want to. Most people keep at least one print for themselves.

Send a message with the wedding or anniversary date, and I will tell you honestly whether the timeline works.
